Returning Students

Sometimes life gets in the way.

Lapsed and returning students can find specialized support getting back into the classroom at Tidewater Community College. Whether you had to take a break for personal or academic reasons, it’s never too late to come back to TCC to complete your degree.

It’ll take a lot of work to get back into the swing of college as a returning or lapsed student, but we are here to help you every step of the way. Whether you attend online or on campus, returning to college isn’t something you’ll have to do alone.

You can’t change your life if you’re still asking, “Should I go back to school?”

PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF

No matter if you’ve taken off a couple of semesters or a couple of decades, coming back to TCC should be easy for returning and lapsed students.

• If you have missed a semester, you are still considered a current student and will be able to register for your classes.
• If you have attended ​TCC within the last 3 years, we recommend you stop by the College in person or contact our Student Support Team. Our staff will look up your student account, and determine what steps you should take next.
• If you haven’t attended TCC in more than 3 years, you will need to re-apply using your previously assigned Student ID number to regain access to your account.
• If you took a class with us in high school within the last 3 years, you are considered a current student and will be able to register for your classes after an advising appointment.

If your life has been busy and you’re not sure how long it’s been, just contact the Student Support Team and we can look into your account for you!

STAY ON TRACK

If you left the college in good standing, you should schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor to re-enroll.

If you left the college because you were suspended or lost your financial aid, you may have to complete additional steps before re-enrolling. We can help you go over the conditions necessary for you to return to classes and answer any questions you may have regarding registering for classes and completing your remaining graduation requirements.
