Online site a welcome resource for students seeking financial aid

Applying for financial aid can be challenging and students often have questions as they navigate through the process.

• How do I know if I qualify for financial aid?
• How can a get a copy of my tax transcript?
• How do I know if I’m eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill?

Watching TV online provides these answers and others in a YouTube format students can relate to. Financial Aid TV or FATV, a new site launched by Tidewater Community College, is a series of short videos organized by topic and playlist, each designed to respond to general questions students might have about financial aid. “This is a great resource for students that will put us in the right direction in offering more accessibility and understanding of our financial aid process,” said Alice McAdory, vice president for student success and enrollment. “FATV is almost like an online counselor for financial aid.”

McAdory initiated the development of FATV in response to student concerns about delays in responding to routine questions about financial aid. She believes FATV will alleviate lengthy wait times and ensure a smoother transition for students seeking federal assistance to attend college.

“The college is always looking for ways to find solutions to problems students encounter,” McAdory said. “We think this will be an invaluable resource to our students.”
