TCC’s Ivory Warren named YWCA Hampton Roads Woman of Distinction

Tidewater Community College’s Ivory Warren has been named a 2015 YWCA Hampton Roads Woman of Distinction. Each year the organization honors women from all walks of life who have achieved, overcome and blazed a trail for other women through their professional leadership, volunteer efforts and civic involvement.

She is one of 12 honorees who will be recognized at a lunch on Thursday at noon at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. For ticket information, click here.

Warren has helped students overcome homelessness, domestic violence, academic issues and financial problems in her 17 years serving TCC. The current lead for TCC’s human services program, Warren spent 15 years as a counselor at the college’s Women’s Center on the Norfolk Campus, providing critical leadership and fostering the center’s growth into a cornerstone of student support services. She supervised a steady stream of graduate counseling and social work interns over the years in human services, providing new practitioners with valuable real world counseling experience under her supervision.

“The breadth and depth of Ivory’s impact on the Hampton Roads community is nearly immeasurable,” said TCC President Edna Baehre-Kolovani. “Students routinely cite Ivory’s support, guidance and mentorship as significant factors contributing to their success.”

Each of Warren’s classes conducts a significant community service project, and her students have taken the lead on projects that have benefitted YWCA South Hampton Roads, ForKids, Inc., The Dwelling Place, Samaritan House, Union Mission Ministries and the Eastern Virginia AIDS Network.
