TCC Chorus to perform with Virginia Wesleyan College Choir

The Tidewater Community College Chorus will present a joint concert with the Virginia Wesleyan College Choir performing John Rutter’s “Requiem” on April 23 at noon at the Roper Performing Arts Center and on April 28 at 7:30 p.m., at Virginia Wesleyan College’s Hofheimer Theater. The Roper event is free and open to the public.

Accompanied by an instrumental ensemble, the groups are led by David Warren, instructor of music with TCC, and Michael John Trotta, director of choirs with Virginia Wesleyan.

Each group will sing a set of five songs independently. TCC Chorus will premiere its commissioned work in its entirety. “Mediations on Emily Dickinson” is three songs set to the poetry of Dickinson, all composed by Bruce Frazier, a recipient of the Carol Grotnes Belk Endowed Professorship of Commercial and Electronic Music at Western Carolina University.

The first piece in the set, “Meditation – There is a Solitude of Space,” debuted last fall. The remaining two songs, “A Light Exists in Spring” and “Bloom is Response,” will debut for the first time this spring. Warren will be a featured soloist.

Virginia Wesleyan College Choir will perform the same works that they have been invited to present at Carnegie Hall at the end of May. TCC singers, Amy White and Gerrie Phibbs have been invited to participate in that Carnegie Hall concert.
