A celebration of Hispanic heritage

TCC’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration features a variety of activities on every campus from fiestas to dancing to speakers, films and a “game show.” Honoring the contributions of Hispanic Americans, the celebration provides a break from studies, while teaching students about the Hispanic community.

Students at the Norfolk Campus learned to dance the Merengue on Oct. 11.

Getting the laughs: Diana Yanzez, Cuban-American comedian and performer, had students in stitches during her presentation at the Portsmouth Campus on Oct. 2. Students also enjoyed fiesta foods, including some Cuban-inspired selections.

Students engaged in a lively battle of wits during the Think Fast game show, held on Oct. 2. The game tested students’ knowledge of Hispanic cultural facts.

Ernesto Mejia, professional baseball player with the minor league Gwinnett Braves, spoke to students about leadership on Sept. 27 at the Chesapeake Campus.

Students enjoyed spicy fare and practice saucy Latin dance moves during a campus fiesta on Sept. 25.

On Sept. 17, students at the Virginia Beach Campus learned to Salsa, a popular social dance throughout South America. Captivated by the rhythm, students grabbed partners and circled the room.
