Student Art & Design Exhibition opens at TCC’s Visual Arts Center
Tidewater Community College’s Visual Arts Center will host the 46th Annual Student Art and Design Exhibition from March 25 through April 23. The event features more than 200 works, including studio arts, photography, graphic design, ceramics and glassblowing, created by students for art classes since last May.
The exhibition’s awards presentation is April 1 at 11 a.m. at the Commodore Theatre, 421 High St., in Portsmouth. The opening reception will follow at noon at the Visual Arts Center at 340 High St.
Events are free and open to the public.
Sam Hughes, assistant professor of fine arts at Norfolk State University, is this year’s judge. During the event, Hughes will present $3,535 in awards recognizing artistic excellence.
Programming for the exhibition includes illustrated lectures by a visiting artist and a visiting graphic designer. On April 4, Walt Taylor, editorial and political cartoonist at The Virginian-Pilot, will present “The Art of Seeing.”
On April 12, Josh Newton, art director at Grow, will present “Now What? Life After Art School.” Both programs begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Visual Arts Center in rooms 208 and 209.
