Planetarium show at TCC explores “Stars of the Pharaohs”

Ancient Egypt comes to Tidewater Community College’s planetarium, which will present “Stars of the Pharaohs” on April 21.

Two free shows, which are open to the public, are at 6:30 and 8 p.m.

Narrated by John Rhys-Davis from the Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings films, the one-hour show explores the connection ancient Egyptians felt with the stars and various astronomical phenomena.

Each performance includes an all-dome show, a review of the night sky and a laser lights production.

TCC’s planetarium is in the Science Building on the college’s Virginia Beach Campus.

Reservations are required for each show. To reserve a seat, call the TCC Information Center at 757-822-1122 or register online at www.tcc.edu/planetarium.

A limited number of standby tickets will be available at the planetarium on the day of the show. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to guarantee a seat.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and children under 4 will not be admitted.

TCC’s planetarium has a state-of-the-art Digistar 5 Laser projector housed in a 40-foot dome with 87 permanent seats. It produces an all-sky image.

Parking is available in the lot closest to the Advanced Technology Center, which is next to the Science Building.
