Tidewater Community College and Virginia Wesleyan University are new community partners in offering a $10,000 scholarship to residents of Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Beach College Success Scholarship is designed for students who complete an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science at TCC and plan to complete their bachelor’s degrees at Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU).

“This is the continuation of a longtime relationship between TCC and Virginia Wesleyan on behalf of hometown residents,” said TCC President Edna V. Baehre-Kolovani. “Keeping higher education affordable has always been a priority for our students, and this scholarship opportunity is an extension of that.”

Scott D. Miller, president of VWU stated, “Many TCC students who receive this $10,000 scholarship will be able to attend Virginia Wesleyan for less than the cost of attending area public universities.”

After completing either an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science at TCC, students who live in Virginia Beach are eligible for a $10,000 scholarship to transfer to Virginia Wesleyan. Upon completion of satisfactory academic performance during their first year there, they will receive an additional $10,000 for the second year.

Recipients must be enrolled in a full-time course of study as a traditional day student within one year of graduation from TCC.

TCC and Virginia Wesleyan are already partners in offering a streamlined transfer process that allows qualified students in business, biology, studio arts, criminal justice and education to work toward their bachelor’s degrees at Virginia Wesleyan.
