Andy Mineo raps at Chesapeake Campus
Christian rap artist Andy Mineo, whose latest release, “Never Land,” debuted in January at No. 13 on the Billboard albums chart and No. 2 on the rap album charts, will perform at Tidewater Community College’s Chesapeake Campus on April 27.
The concert will be at 7 p.m. in the new Chesapeake Campus Student Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Growing up in Syracuse, N.Y., Mineo adopted a stage name, C-Lite, and formed a secular hip-hop group. But after moving to New York City, he embraced his faith and began a new career as a faith-based rapper. He signed with Reach Records in 2011, abandoned his stage name and once again became Andy Mineo.
“It is absolutely undeniable that hip-hop is becoming the universal language,” Mineo said during a recent promotional tour.
His full-length studio album, “Heroes for Sale,” was released in 2013. “We make heroes out of a lot of things,” he said. “We make heroes out of people. We believe ourselves to be greater than we really are. We make ourselves look like heroes to other people.
“What I really wanted to do is show the brokenness of the heroes that we create and the heroes that we try to be in order to show that there is ultimately only one great hero.”
