Figurative glass work to be on exhibit at TCC’s Visual Arts Center

The exhibition “Percipient Minds” will open at Tidewater Community College’s Visual Arts Center (VAC) on May 2. The opening reception will be May 1 at 7 p.m. with an informal gallery talk preceding the event at 6:30 p.m.

Events are free and open to the public. The exhibition continues until June 24.

Using the human psyche as the theme for this program, Julia and Robin Rogers of Chesapeake work independently and collaboratively in their presentation of sculpted glass heads that physically and metaphorically open to reveal the inner workings of the human brain. Colored glass, tiny components and lights add to the unusual and compelling nature of this highly detailed work. Life-sized human figures will also be included.

A site-specific installation that includes illumination, the exhibit will feature a projection and a mirrored geodesic sphere intended to duplicate the mind. The work will depict the endless possibilities within ourselves and upon the world when we open our mind to contemplation and discovery.
