“Timeless stories and classic characters can and should be reimagined, retooled, and reset,” said Edwin Castillo, co-director of Core Theatre Ensemble. “Whenever our company adapts a novel or short story into a production for the stage, our aim is not only to tell the story in a new way, but to make our audiences want to reread and re-experience the original work again.”
“The Tragedy of Macbeth,” often a source of theatrical superstition by performers, is considered one of William Shakespeare most dark and powerful plays. It tells the story of a Scottish general who is told by witches he would one day become king. When his ambition takes over, murder, intrigue and tragedy are the results. This new vision of the show is set in modern times with producers promising an added emphasis on some of the play’s more supernatural elements.
Core Theatre Ensemble is an international touring independent theater company based out of Hampton Roads. Headed by Edwin Castillo & Emel Ertugrul, the group has been creating original works and performing since 2006.
