TCC receives grant from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

Tidewater Community College’s Regional Automotive Center has again received a $3,000 grant from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Foundation in support of its Motor Parts Corporation College Automotive Program, known as MOPAR CAP.

The funding promotes the goal of increasing enrollment. In 2014, with support from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Foundation, student enrollment in the program increased by 50 percent.

Launched in 2004, the MOPAR CAP offers students the opportunity to train and work in a Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealership. This two-year program combines theory, hands-on work and in-shop experience for students while using the latest Chrysler products and equipment. After graduating from TCC with an Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology, students can pursue careers as automotive technicians at sponsoring dealerships.

TCC’s Regional Automotive Center, which is affiliated with the Chesapeake Campus, administers the school’s automotive, diesel and marine technology programs. The certified automotive technology programs prepare students for entry-level careers in automotive service and provide training updates for workers already in the field. Students receive theoretical and practical training in engine overhaul, engine performance, automotive transmissions, power trains, wheel alignment, suspension and brakes, electrical systems, air conditioning and general automotive repair.
