If you’re seeking a focus for your college education, Tidewater Community College’s general studies program might be just what you’re looking for! Or get a year or two of a bachelor’s degree under your belt by customizing your own flexible curriculum of courses that fulfill requirements at a four-year college or university. If you complete the degree and meet the GPA required for admission, you will likely be admitted as a junior.

Associate of Science - Specialization in Professional Communication

Prepare for an entry-level job in public relations or technical writing, but communication is the foundation of any career path. Course work includes intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, business and professional communication, and, of course, writing. You'll also gain real-world experience during a required internship.

Interested in becoming a teacher? This program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to seek a bachelor's degree in education (with licensure), specifically focused on preschool through eighth grade.

Certificate - General Studies

Work with an academic counselor to tailor a program that will help you meet your transfer and educational goals. You’ll take classes in all of the major disciplines, including science, social sciences, arts and humanities, communications and mathematics.

First-time college students who meet GPA and other requirements may qualify for a 2-year transfer grant to apply toward tuition. Grants of $1,000 may be awarded for your junior and senior years.

Students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) disciplines may be eligible for an additional $1,000 each year.
